Employment Opportunities with USTA Middle States

The United States Tennis Association (USTA), a not-for-profit organization in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, is the national governing body of the sport of tennis in the United States. USTA Middle States (MS) is one of seventeen sections, comprising the geographic areas of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey (exclusive of a 35 mile radius around NYC) and northwestern West Virginia.

USTA Middle States is currently accepting applications for the following positions:
 
 
To promote and implement the USTA Middle States Junior Pathway, which includes but is not limited to: USTA Jr. Team Tennis (JTT), junior tournaments and facility assistance. Assist in the effort to develop and integrate USTA Jr. Team Tennis programming throughout the section in partnership with local tennis providers and community based organizations. Reports to Director of Junior Competition and Development.

Responsibilities:
• Assist with correspondence, information exchange and resource development for junior competition and development initiatives
• Assist with online and/or in-person training to JTT Coordinators and junior tournament directors on the TennisLink system, as well as provide on-going assistance with new JTT league set-up and maintenance
• Assist Community Development department with planning and managing of JTT, 10 and Under Tennis events, Play Days and other projects as needed

• Help conduct seminars and presentations on JTT for sectional events and meetings
Qualifications:
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills
• Familiarity and proficiency with Mircosoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point
• Experience with web based applications including data management and social media
• Experience and aptitude in project management with attention to detail
• Ability to appreciate and optimize volunteer performance and resources
• Knowledge of USTA Middle States programs preferred
• College degree preferred or a minimum of 5 years industry/business experience
Time Commitment:
• Part-time (25 hours/week) staff member with hours divided between the USTA Middle States office in Valley Forge and some evening and weekend work
• Attend meetings, events and workshops as required

Communications & Marketing Interns


The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States section is looking for Communications/Marketing Interns. Interns in this unpaid position work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, Communications Manager and the Marketing Manager to help develop and execute communications, public relations, publications, advertising and marketing initiatives and projects. Interns have the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of the marketing of tennis and the Middle States section, including print and social media advertising, promotional campaigns, event planning and execution, research, and the creative process.

Main Responsibilities:
• Graphic design - producing and collecting graphic material/photography
• Prepare press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast the material
• Plan, design and attract advertisements (yearbook, quarterly magazine, event program booklets)
• Assist with and writing of news or feature stories, including conducting interviews
• Organize and track media/valuing and media/archiving
• Create PowerPoint or other visual presentations
• Database management
• Assist with event planning (Middle States Hall of Fame,booth displays at special events, etc.)
• Interact with the public by working USTA MS sponsored or sanctioned events
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Current enrollment in a college or university, or recently graduated
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal communication skills
• Computer experience in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
• Desktop publishing experience
• Strong editing skills
• Ability to keep deadlines and handle tasks responsibly
• Ability to work independently and to be adaptable to daily changing tasks
• Interest and knowledge of one or more of the following areas: journalism, mass communications, media management, marketing, advertising, public relations, publishing and sport management
Duration/Compensation:
• Candidate must be available for at least 20 hours per week for a 10-week period*
• Candidate must be available to work weekend events when needed
• Candidate mst have a valid driving license and reliable transportation
• This is an unpaid internship. USTA Middle States will work with the college or university to provide course credit if needed, but it is not mandatory.
