The United States Tennis Association (USTA), a not-for-profit organization in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, is the national governing body of the sport of tennis in the United States. USTA Middle States (MS) is one of seventeen sections, comprising the geographic areas of Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey (exclusive of a 35 mile radius around NYC) and northwestern West Virginia.
Accepting for FALL 2011 and WINTER 2012:
The United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States section is looking for Communications/Marketing Interns. Interns in this unpaid position work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications, Communications Manager and the Marketing Manager to help develop and execute communications, public relations, publications, advertising and marketing initiatives and projects. Interns have the opportunity to be exposed to all areas of the marketing of tennis and the Middle States section, including print and social media advertising, promotional campaigns, event planning and execution, research, and the creative process.
Main Responsibilities:
• Graphic design - producing and collecting graphic material/photography
• Prepare press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast the material
• Plan, design and attract advertisements (yearbook, quarterly magazine, event program booklets)
• Assist with and writing of news or feature stories, including conducting interviews
• Organize and track media/valuing and media/archiving
• Create PowerPoint or other visual presentations
• Database management
• Assist with event planning (Middle States Hall of Fame,booth displays at special events, etc.)
• Interact with the public by working USTA MS sponsored or sanctioned events
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Current enrollment in a college or university or recently graduated
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong interpersonal communications skills
• Computer experience in Microsoft Office platform, Adobe Creative Suite
• Desktop publishing experience
• Strong editing skills
• Ability to keep deadlines and handle tasks responsibility
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to be flexible and adaptable to daily changing tasks
• Interest in, and knowledge of, one or more of the following fields: journalism, mass communications, media management, marketing, advertising, public relations, publishing and sports management.
Duration/Compensation:
• Candidate must be available for at least 20 hours per week, for a 10-week period.*
• Candidate must be available to work weekend events when needed.
• Candidate must have a valid driving license and reliable transportation.
• This is an unpaid internship. USTA Middle States will work with the college or university to provide course credit if needed; not mandatory.
*Hours per week and duration of internship are negotiable, for the right candidate, based on student's needs.
