TOC Penn State A and B
It may have been three months later than expected, but the Tennis On Campus Middle States Section Championship was finally decided over the weekend.
After two days of play, Penn State "A" took home the title, defeating defending Middle States champion Penn "A" in the final at Quakertown’s Tennis Zone. Penn State and Penn automatically advance to the 2012 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championships in Cary, N.C. April 12-14.
One more wildcard, which will be determined after the 2011 Tournament Series, will join Penn and Penn State to represent Middle States.
The Section title was originally set to be determined Oct. 30 at Lehigh University, but inclement weather forced a delay. Play was rescheduled for Jan. 28-29 at West End Racquet Club and Tennis Zone. Teams that advanced to the Gold Bracket at Tennis Zone included: Drexel, Penn A, Penn B, Penn State A, Penn State B, Lehigh A, Lehigh B, Pitt and Villanova.
Sixteen teams from 11 schools competed in the Middle States event. Currently, Tennis On Campus is offered on more than 500 college campuses, servicing more than 30,000 students.
The 2012 national championship will be played at Cary Tennis Park, where the nation’s top collegiate club teams will compete for the crown. UCLA won the championship in 2011.
