Bethlehem woman hopes to lead U.S. team to victory

The USTA selected Patricia Keleman of Bethlehem, Pa., to be a member of the U.S. Alice Marble Cup Team for women 60 and over. Keleman will compete with her team as part of the 2008 ITF Seniors & Super-Seniors World Team Championship on the red clay courts in Antalya, Turkey, October 12 -18.

Wheeling Oglebay Tennis Club played host to the Wheeling Oglebay Senior Open Championships, a Category II tournament, June 11-15. Middle States had numerous members participating in the tournament including Mark Forrester (Moorestown, N.J.), Colleen Geyer (Pittsburgh) and Brenda Neurell (Philadelphia) all of whom reached the finals of their respective age divisions

Pennsylvania’s Costanzi Wins at Jana Hunsaker Memorial Wheelchair Tournament

The eighth annual Jana Hunsaker Memorial Wheelchair Tennis Tournament was held June 5-8 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Flushing, N.Y. In the Women’s Wheelchair A Singles division championship, Middle States’ own Sheila Costanzi (Nazareth, Pa.) defeated the nation’s top-ranked Jocelyn Dettloff of Kentwood, Mich., 6-3, 6-0.

The 9th Annual Hempfield Wheelchair Tennis Tournament was played May 23-25 at the Hempfield Sports Complex in Landisville, Pa. Local star Tarek Zohdi of Ephrata, Pa., who is currently ranked fifth in the nation, took home both singles and doubles championships.
