Adult Competition Coordinator

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY: To develop, administer, implement, and promote adult programs including but not limited to: USTA League Tennis, sanctioned tournaments for adults, and rankings. 
 
I.    USTA LEAGUE TENNIS
1.    Collaborate with Director of Adult Competition, Area League Coordinators, and marketing department to increase participation in USTA League Tennis by promoting, developing, and servicing current league tennis programs and working to establish new league tennis programs.
2.    Establish strong relationships with the local delivery system including tennis and non-tennis facilities, organizations, and volunteers.
3.    Meet with tennis facility personnel to show the benefits of USTA League Tennis to their facility and as necessary, provide awareness, education, marketing materials, and support for increasing league tennis participation at the local level.
4.    Provide local marketing ideas, strategies, and PR support to tennis facilities in order to increase the number of new players and to increase retention of current players.
5.    Assist Director of Adult Competition with USTA League Tennis administrative support and Tennis Link operations.
6.    Produce reports showing participation numbers by program.

II.    TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION
1.    Develop innovative and creative ways to increase USTA adult tournament participation.
2.    Generate and publish the adult tournament schedule in conjunction with the districts and the appropriate committee(s).
3.    Assist tournament directors of adult tournaments with all aspects of tournament operations including TDM training and setup.
4.    To serve as liaison to sectional committees as assigned.
5.    Other duties as assigned.

III.    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED IN ADULT PROGAMMING
1.    Work cooperatively with other departments and staff to develop and promote adult programs.
2.    Administer and oversee the following adult competitive programs including training and supporting volunteers.
a.    Adult rankings (Section and District)
b.    Inter-district team events
c.    Inter-sectional team events
3.    Maintain and implement adult competition rules/regulations/policies as determined by the appropriate sectional and national committees/boards.
4.    Produce reports showing participation numbers by program.
5.    Develop and promote a program for seniors using QuickStart format.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.    Excellent organizational, administrative and management skills required.
2.    Excellent communication and presentation skills both verbal and written.
3.    Customer service skills and ability to work with volunteers and manage difficult situations.
4.    Computer skills to include PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and any required tournament software programs.
5.    High energy and enthusiasm.
6.    Strong tennis background, competitive preferred.
7.    Knowledge of USTA programs preferred.
8.    College degree required.  Minimum 5 years industry/business experience desired.

TIME COMMITMENT
Full-time staff member based in the USTA MS office.  Significant evening and weekend work required specifically during section and district league tournament season.  Attend local and national meetings, events, and workshops as required.

Area League Coordinator for USTA League Tennis (Central PA District)

Reports to: Director of Adult Competition

MAIN RESPONSIBILITY

Coordinate USTA League Tennis activities within the assigned district. Increase participation in USTA League Tennis by servicing current league tennis programs and promoting and developing current league programs and new league programs. Establish  strong relationships with the local delivery system, including tennis and non-tennis facilities, organizations and volunteers. Assist local league coordinators where applicable with any league issues.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

1.    Recruit captains and communicate with continuing captains.
2.    Prepare district calendar; coordinate with section.
3.    Coordinate local leagues, including scheduling of league matches.
4.    Work with Director of Adult Competition to define the volunteer structure within each district.
5.    Conduct captains' meetings.
6.    Tournament Director for district championships.
7.    Meet with tennis facility personnel to show the benefits of league tennis to their facility and as necessary, provide awareness, education, marketing materials and support for increasing league tennis participation at the local level.
8.    Actively promote tennis opportunities for multicultural participants and captains.
9.    Provide local marketing ideas, strategies and PR support to tennis facilities in order to increase the number of new players and to increase retention of current players.
10.    Represent USTA Middle States by attending and/or assisting in workshops, events or meetings designed to strengthen the local delivery system.
11.    Submit updated goals and activity reports to the Director of Adult Competition as required.
12.    Assist in writing the budget for district activities such as district championships.
13.    To serve as liaison and work closely with the assigned district board and TSR.
14.    Other duties as assigned.

EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

The Area League Coordinator will work in conjunction with the USPTA, PTR, local volunteers, local tennis facility owners and managers, Park and Recreation leaders, Collegiate Administrators, CTA Administrators, and other organizations who share similar interest in an effort to promote USTA League Tennis.

Tennis Instructor at Legacy Youth Tennis & Education

Reports to:        Kareem Bryant, Director of Neighborhood-Based Programs

Job Category:    Part-time, non-exempt

Summary:
Legacy Youth Tennis and Education (formerly Arthur Ashe Youth Tennis and Education), a long-standing nonprofit organization in the City of Philadelphia, is in search of experienced, fun and energetic Tennis Instructors for our Afterschool Tennis, Tutoring and Youth Leadership program and our summer National Junior Tennis and Learning program. Programs are located at schools and recreation centers throughout Philadelphia. Tennis Instructors must bring a high level of competency and motivation to work in a recreational tennis environment. More importantly, candidates must share a passion for young people.

Specific Responsibilities:
•    Deliver all elements of the program including tennis instruction and education curriculum
•    Develop appropriate and supportive relationships with all participants
•    Actively, productively and continuously involve all participants in the program
•    Promptly resolve all disciplinary issues
•    Identify opportunities to continuously improve the program, and incorporate feedback from your Supervisor
•    Maintain a safe atmosphere and constant supervision of participants at all times
•    Complete program administrative duties and maintain equipment
•    Participate in evaluations of programs and participants as needed

Required Skills and Experience:
•    Some college preferred
•    2+ years of tennis coaching experience or competitive tennis play required
•    Certification with PTR or USPTA preferred
•    Ability to teach the fundamentals of tennis
•    Experience working with youth in a recreational setting preferred

Hours and Compensation:
SPRING: Positions available immediately for spring afterschool program. 2-8 hours/week depending on candidate's availability.

SUMMER: 15-35 hours/week from 6/25/13-8/8/13. Some shorter programs also available. Compensation ranges from $13.00/hour to $18.00/hour depending on program budget and candidate's experience.

Intercollegiate Tennis Association - Director of Communications

The Director of Communications will have a unique position in the tennis world with responsibility for all ITA media initiatives and for overseeing the ITA collegiate varsity tennis rankings.  This position will involve assisting, on a daily basis, promotional efforts for all ITA programs - NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA and California Community Colleges.

Applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree (Master’s Degree preferred), strong writing and computer skills (including web site management and graphic design skills), statistical skills, and at least three years of media related experience.  Employee will be expected to work from ITA headquarters in Skillman, New Jersey (located near Princeton University).   Position will require working on some evenings and weekends and also some domestic air travel to ITA events.   Salary will be commensurate with experience.    Employee will be eligible for medical, dental, and life insurance benefits.

Intercollegiate Tennis Association - Communications Intern

Job Description:
ITA is seeking a high achieving intern with familiarity and interest in web and/or graphic design and social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube) looking for a career in sports (tennis preferred).  This Intern position will assist the Director of Communications on a number of projects with emphasis on social media, web management & graphic design activities of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to assisting with:
•    Layout and supply content/graphics of www.itatennis.com
•    Providing graphics/content support for emails, web, and social media
•    Creating and updating graphics
•    Ensuring top stories, videos & other relevant content is promoted and prominently placed on the site
•    Implementing the social media campaigns, tracking web and social networking analytics
•    Modifying html code as needed

Qualifications and Required Skills:
•    Bachelors degree required
•    Applicants should have experience with content management systems, Photoshop, InDesign, html coding & possess a strong writing ability as well as experience with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint and Word.
•    Applicant should be detail-oriented, possess the ability and dedication to complete assigned projects, have the ability to work in high-pressure situations, and possess good interpersonal skills.  Sports and/or tennis background a plus.

Commitment:
This is a one-year internship and will pay $1,250/month (August, 2013-July, 2014).  The employee is expected to work from the ITA headquarters in Skillman, NJ approximately 5 miles north of Princeton University.  Limited travel may be required as well as working on some evenings and weekends.
