Tennis On Campus Fact Sheet
If you are looking to start a student tennis program, USTA Middle States has plenty of resources available. We can organize and attend meetings, and work with the students so that you don’t have to add something extra to your plate. Once everything is set up, we continue to work with them on building their program and participating in USTA Tennis on Campus Programs. See below for some details on Campus Tennis.
Collegiate Student Tennis Clubs- Many students have formed tennis clubs at their university. These clubs can comprise anyone from former varsity players to intramural players to beginners. Within the club, students can have tournaments, organize Team Tennis Leagues or just have fun with a pickup game.
USTA Middle States Tournament Series- The USTA MS Tournament Series consists of several tournaments throughout the fall bringing together schools from all across the section. The concept is to get intramural and club tennis teams of all sizes and skill levels an opportunity to play. Participating teams can play in as many or as few events as they wish, however a minimum of four teams must be competing to be an official stop on the series.
All teams that enter a tournament receive point towards the tournament series. The overall champion of the series receives an automatic bid to the National Campus Championship. For complete guidelines click here.
Sectional Campus Championships- This is our tournament that we hold every fall. Teams play in World TeamTennis format and the winner automatically advances to the National Campus Championships. In 2005, we had 16 teams from schools ranging from Penn State University to Philadelphia Biblical College. In 2008, 20 teams competed in the event. Lehigh University serves as a tremendous host for the event which has grown each year.
National Campus Championships- The National Championships are a step up from the Sectional Championships bringing together the best programs in the country. A complete field of 64 teams met in 2009 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, NC for the ultimate final exam, the USTA National Campus Championship.
Captain Meetings- We usually have meeting with student captains at our Valley Forge office. If you or a student would like to attend, please email Thane at
